1. Yaarai thaan nambuvatho pedhai nenjam  ,

Ammamma  bhoomiyile   yaavum vanjam  ,

Uravellam  mullakum  ,

Uyir yellam   kallagum

1.Whom will   this  innocent heart believe  ,

Alas, alas  , how much deceit  on this earth  ,

Al relations are  thorns,

And all the souls  become stones.

2,Vettai aadum maan aanen ,

Vithai kattum porul aanen,

Kattil vaazhum  kiliyagamal  ,

Nattil  vaazhum pennanen.

2. I became a  hunted   deer,

I goot a thing that   shows off  ,

Without becoming a parrot of forest,

I became a  lady living   in the country.

3.Annai pethaal pennendru ,

Athanaal thane   thuyar indru  ,

Kannai thantha deivangale  ,

Karunai   thanthaal aagatho.

3. All the sorrow is  due to ,

Mother  giving birth to a girl ,

Oh Gods which gave  the eye ,

Can you not give us mercy?

4.Azhakai kattum kannadi  ,

Manathai katta koodatho  ,

Pazhagum pothe  nanmai theemai  ,

Parthu cholla   koodatho?

4, Can not the mirror  which,

Shows the beauty   show the mind

Can not the good and bad  be ,

Shown to us when we move with him?

5.Vaazhthum kayyil vaal undu ,

POthum mozhiyil   visham undu ,

Vancham chinthum punnagai illa  ,

Manithar  inge evar undu?

5. In the hands that greet , ther is sword ,

In the words   that praise , there  is poison,

Which man is here  who has  ,

Smile that   sheds   cruelty.
